When PrimeCenter is the right answer
When prepress is a job. Hot folder, scripts, duplex, reports. €1,495–5,995/year is then cheaper than a second hire. You are not looking for a Caldera alternative — you are looking for Caldera without the RIP. That is the vendor’s official path.
When the stand-in is a cheaper nester
When a RIP already stands (any brand) and the suite is used for layout and contour. You are paying for functions the operator never touches. What a stand-in will not do

Does RolCut replace Caldera?
No. It replaces nesting and cut.pdf prep. Raster and profile stay in the RIP — yours, not necessarily Caldera’s.
