ONYX TruFit

A reasonable true-shape box beside the RIP. Marketing claims up to 50% media. On Signs101 it is sometimes called a trimmed Griffin. It makes sense as a Thrive add-on, not as a first buy without Onyx.

Updated 28 August 2026. NestPrintCut editorial — the team that builds RolCut. Scores follow the public method. We do not run a 200-roll lab we have not run.

Onyx sells TruFit as the tool that can cut media use in half by packing real shapes, not bounding boxes. US resellers still list about $1,995. That puts it between eCut and PrimeCenter — on paper.

On the floor

Signs101 repeats the same thread: Thrive nests rectangles, TruFit is for shapes, some operators refuse a second window. If Onyx is already there and you run irregular stickers or textile, TruFit is cheaper than Griffin and closer to the ecosystem. If you have no Onyx — do not buy it “just in case”.

Pros and cons

  • True-shape and cut-path preview
  • PDF export to Onyx and foreign RIPs
  • Cheaper than PrimeCenter Pro
  • Bezier for hand-fixing contours
  • Historically a second app beside the RIP — friction
  • Less roll-first than PrimeCenter and RolCut
  • Some shops drift back to in-RIP nesting after a month
  • No cheap self-serve operator seat
